So happy to share the #goodnews about my new job as Preservation Program Support Specialist at 4Culture in my hometown of SHE-eattle! @kc4culture is a public agency that funds and supports arts, heritage, historic preservation, and public art programs for individuals and organizations in King County, Washington. Its Mission: “With a focus on racial equity, we fund, support, and advocate for culture to enhance the quality of life in King County.”
My late #mother loved #hats and I inherited the best of her collection. This #royalblue #wool #felt #hat with black sheer ribbon and netting is from the #1980s or 1990s, made by the old skool @bollmanhatcompany. It’s been in storage for more than ten years since she passed, but still held its shape. I had to bust it out for the #KentuckyDerby today! My mother never made it past Longacres (south of Seattle) to see the horse races, but she would wear a hat to church, weddings, funerals, even the community center, and definitely on Mother’s Day. This one fits my head perfectly.
Thank You to this audience member named DAWN (YES, her name is DAWN) @dawntsj who asked great questions and inspired me to read my “Maré Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon is a Diva, di ba” poem tonite. (See her or my story for a clip.) Maraming Salamat to @fanhs_national President Emerita Dr. Judy Patacsil, Miramar College, for inviting me to read poetry and answer questions about oral history; thanks also to all the students, staff, community folks, and @fanhssandiego fam who attended.
